Congratulations! Your decision to participate in JROTC is an indication of your desire to excel in high school and in life. JROTC is not a basic training course rather a volunteer activity and demanding course with the purpose of developing citizenship and leadership skills, that will help you make life decisions and enhance your academic, physical, emotional, and moral growth. JROTC is both a competitive program and an academic course. Please review the rules and guidelines in this syllabus and contact an instructor for any questions.
Cadet Behavior, Classroom Rules/Consequences
Hazing, horseplay or disrespect will not be tolerated. JROTC cadets are expected to follow the NEISD behavioral guidelines, show respect to others, practice self-discipline and cooperate with other cadets and the instructors.
Excessive Public Display of Affection (PDA) will not be tolerated. Holding hands and brief hugs is acceptable outside JROTC building.
Cadets and authorized visitors are expected to respect all NEISD facilities, property and personal property including but not limited to offices, classrooms, rifle range and locker rooms.
Cadets will adhere to the school’s dress, grooming standards and ID requirements. Students failing to comply with school policies will be referred to the assistant principal office.
Cadet promotions and leadership positions are based on points earned for participation and recommended by current student leadership and ultimately approved by SAI/AI.
Special team participation is only mandatory for cadets in leadership positions but highly encouraged to all cadets. Team participation is subject to “No Pass/No Play” UIL standards.
Liability forms are mandatory for all cadets to protect student welfare during physical fitness activities.
Cadets are not allowed in the weight room without instructor/coach supervision.
The following is criteria for JROTC disenrollment at the SAI discretion:
Two In School Suspension or Alternative High School referral in one school year.
Any use of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs, with or without connection to school activities.
Any illegal use or possession of prescription or over the counter medication on campus or school activity.
Use of social media or electronic means to bully or post inappropriate art, photos or graphics.
JROTC grade of 68 or below for two consecutive grading periods.
Loitering in locker rooms will not be tolerated. Lockers are limited and will be assigned by the SAI/AI.
JROTC Uniforms are Provided Free of Charge Cadets must wear their uniform neatly pressed and complete with a maximum of 12 approved ribbons according to training schedule (unless directed otherwise). Pending availability JROTC will provide each student with at least one complete uniform including the Army Service Uniform (ASU) gray shirt, pants, belt, buckle and corframs (uniform shoes). THE UNIFORM PANTS MUST BE DRY CLEANED but the shirt may be washed, both of which are the student’s responsibility. All uniform items must be returned clean and in serviceable condition at the end of the school year or earlier in order to meet the district inventory requirements.
JROTC T-Shirts and Physical Fitness Uniforms Physical Fitness Uniforms and JROTC T-Shirts are available for purchase. Students must bring their physical fitness clothing twice a week on Monday and Friday (unless directed otherwise). There are uniform days where the requirement will be a JROTC T-Shirt in lieu of the ASU Uniform.
Course Requirements
Be in class on time.
Be in assigned place/position when class begins.
Be prepared to participate in physical fitness activities.
Bring a writing utensil and notebook to class as required.
Grading will be a combination of written and performance examinations as well as evaluations of individual job performance and team/unit leadership.
Please ensure that the instructors are aware of any physical or health restrictions.
