The Volunteer Rifle Team is an Air Rifle Team specializing in marksmanship of compressed air rifles. The three positions that an air rifle member must excel at are standing, kneeling, and prone. There are two categories of an Air Rifle Team, precision and sporter.
Precision:
An Olympic level style event
Utilize highly advanced rifles
Consists of the 4 best shooters
Sporter:
Separated into Varsity and Junior Varisty teams
Utilize basic competition rifles
Consists of beginner shooters
Commander: C/CPT Thomas Coffey
Standing:
The most difficult position out of the three
The marksman will place the front elbow on their hip to fire the rifle with maximum stability while standing.
Kneeling
The marksman will sit with one knee up and one knee on the ground on top of a kneeling roll.
The marksman will place their front elbow on top of their front knee to fire the rifle.
Prone:
The marksman will lie on the ground with their elbows propping up their upper body.
Proper use of the sling and breath control will maximize stability.
